

Professor Doron Bar served as the president of the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem from 2015 to 2022. As a cultural-historical geographer, he specializes in the study of popular and civic holy places in the history of Palestine and the State of Israel. His research includes the history of pilgrimage to Palestine during late antiquity and the nineteenth century. He is also dedicated to the study of Jewish holy places in Israel and the development of national holy sites. Professor Bar's published works include: Sanctifying a Land: Jewish Holy Places in the State of Israel: 1948-1968; Landscape and Ideology: The Reinterment of Renowned Jews in the Land of Israel, 1904-1967; The Western Wall: The Dispute over Israel's Holiest Site, 1967-2000; Yad Vashem: The Challenge of Shaping a Holocaust Remembrance Site, 1942-1976.
